A Galt man is in custody after he allegedly shot and killed his wife Friday night, July 23, then fled to a nearby orchard before surrendering to police.
Galt police officers responded to a call just after 10 p.m. of a report of a shooting that occurred in the 10000 block of Walnut Avenue. When police arrived, officers found a 56-year-old female with a gunshot wound inside the residence.
Officers performed CPR until Cosumnes Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. Life-saving efforts were in vain as the female was later pronounced deceased.
During the preliminary investigation, police determined the female victim and her husband had been in a verbal argument. The victim went to another room, but was followed by her husband who then allegedly shot her, police said.
