The Connecticut Department of Banking has fined a Jacksonville, Fla.-based consumer debt collection agency $500,000 and moved to revoke its license to do business in Connecticut for a series of violations, including failing to notify state officials that the business had filed for bankruptcy.
Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez said Wednesday that the company, Diversified Consultants, was issued a final notification of the fine and license revocation on May 11.
But it was not immediately clear Wednesday whether the state will ever be able to collect on the fine levied against Diversified Consultants. The Jacksonville Business Journal reported last month the company permanently closed its headquarters and laid off 250 people.
