we ve seen it in the past with other fishing vessels and industry vessels, but this being a recreational vessel definitely changes things. the dive vessel probably quite a bit of compressed air. there s a lot of accelerants just due to the nature of the business they are in. could have affected this and made it happen just so quickly. martha: that s a great point. why would there be hatches that wouldn t be able to open in the event of a fire? we will have to wait and see. the coast guard has recordings of all the channel 16 recordings. the captain or whoever was talking i assume it was the captain, could have said the hatches were blocked. that s very possible, especially if there was explosions if those tanks had exploded or something like that. from the recordings i heard, i know they thought they heard locked, but the code of very possibly set blocked. when you re talking to captains and mariners in the situations, you got to remember at three in the morning, completely
vessel that reportedly had 39 people on board. the five crew members able to disembark because they were in the main cabin. the 34 passengers were below decks. the report we got was they were trapped by the fire. the fire was so intense that even after it was put out, we re not able to actually embark the vessel and, you know, look for survivors at this point. it s still ongoing. chief, we re just seeing our first images. i don t know if you re near a tv and you can see these images but what our viewers are looking at and what i m seeing for the first time, these are images that just came to us from ventura county fire and you see the entire vessel. as you said, a 75 foot boat engulfed in flames. you mentioned being able to breach the hole, get below deck. this is in the dark, 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning when this broke out. is the belief these people were sleeping on the boat when the
multiple fire departments are on the scene. this is over the blaze that broke out at 3:15 a.m. local time, pacific time this morning in ventura county, california. on that commercial diving boat, a 75-foot boat. 39 people, passengers and crew for a labor day diving trip. we know that five crew members were able to escape the burning vessel. what we don t know is the status of the 34 others on board. listen to this. the fire has been put out multiple times and re-flashed, so there s multiple coast guard and local ventura county fire department assets on scene, but we re not able to yet breach the hull and see if there s any survivors at this point. can you tell us a little bit more about what that means? it s a 75-foot commercial dive vessel that reportedly had
