Maoist killed in gunfight with forces in Malkangiri Post News Network
The identity of the gunned-down Maoist is yet to be revealed by the police.
The police were tipped off that the Maoists were convening a meeting in Makadapadar forest, close to the border of Andhra Pradesh. Taking the tip-off seriously, a combined team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) jawans under the guidance of Malkangiri SP Rishikesh D Khilari launched a combing operation in the said jungle.
Seeing the forces marching towards them, the ultras opened fire. In retaliation, the joint team too fired at the Maoists.

Maoists, security forces exchange fire; arms seized Post News Network
Phulbani: A militiaman was detained while firearms and other articles were seized during an exchange of fire between the Maoists and security forces December 17 evening near Bireni village under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district, police said Sunday.
The militiaman was detained during the exchange of fire while the ultras taking advantage of the dense forest managed to escape.
He has been taken for interrogation to examine his involvement in violence and insurgency activities in the region.
Two country-made guns, a radio set, medicines, clothes, ration and other articles were seized from the place after the ultras escaped.
