New fines imposed for failing to register car, show license plates
Prince William County wants its money.
Today, the Board of County Supervisors voted to approve a new tax-evader program that imposes an annual $100 license tax on owners of motor vehicles that do not display current Virginia license plates and a $250 penalty on owners who fail to timely register their vehicle.
“This is long overdue,” said Neabsco District Supervisor Victor Angry. “We all have to play by the rules, and there are a lot of people who are breaking the rules.”
State law allows the county to create such an ordinance. The county set the penalities to the highest that the law allows.
