Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Dec 4: A re-poll is being held tomorrow on two District Development Council (DDC) constituencies in North Kashmir after a gap of two years. The re-poll was necessitated after it was found that two contesting candidates in these two constituencies were Pakistan nationals. SRINAGAR: After keeping the counting process in animation for nearly two months over antecedents of a PaK born female candidate contesting DDC elections from Drugmulla constituency, State Election Commission has finally announced nullification of the then held elections even as dropping the name of candidate in question permanently from electoral rolls.
State Election Commissioner in an order, of which a copy lies with news agency GNS, maintains that a complaint was received by the polling authorities before the counting of votes schedule on 22-12-2020 against one Soomia Sadaf, contesting elections independently for DDC Constituency Drugmulla, alleging that she is not a bonafide Indian citizen. “The complaint mentioned that she is a resident of Muzaffarabad, PaK and an illegal entrant into the country and therefore is not a citizen of India”, the it states.

SRINAGAR, Feb 6: The Apni Party today won two District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson and Vice Chairperson posts with the help of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), denting the prospects of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration that won maximum DDC seats in Kashmir valley last year.
The Apni Party candidate Aftab Malik became chairman of DDC Srinagar as he bagged 10 votes while Malik’s rival bagged only three votes. Bilal Ahmad of the AP was elected vice-chairperson as he secured nine votes while his rival from People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Manzoor Ahmad Bhat bagged only four votes.
