Headen, a 2017 District of Columbia State Athletic Association Hall of Fame inductee, is the winningest coach in the history of D.C. public schools. His resume includes seven D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association conference championships at H.D. Woodson where he coached Leftwich, a young man whose character always stood out as much as his athletic prowess.
“I feel real good about everything Byron has been able to accomplish, but I’m not surprised,” Headen said. “Byron is a positive person. He has a good attitude and he won’t take no for an answer. If he can see it, he can do it, so I’m happy but not at all surprised.”
