Anglophone district education councils will lose their decision making power, but the councils in francophone districts will retain them in order to respect Charter Rights.
Some members of district education councils are raising concerns about a draft plan by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to replace school governance structures this year in a way that has fewer elected community members and fewer parent representatives.

Less than 48 hours remain until the nomination deadline for municipal elections on May 10th.
Chief Electoral Officer for Elections New Brunswick Kim Poffenroth says as of Tuesday this week, there were four municipalities with no candidates, “It’s not unusual for people to wait until the last minute. But I do encourage people not to wait until that 2pm deadline on April 9th, because if you wait and something needs to be corrected, you don’t actually have the opportunity to rectify.”
As of Tuesday, names had been submitted in 100 of the province’s 104 municipalities for various council positions.
