georgia, where the former president lives just ahead. but first tonight to east palestine, ohio, where a train derailment and toxic chemical spill have residents and lawmakers demanding answers about the safety of the air and drinking water. garrett tenney is live in that small ohio town near the pennsylvania border. garrett. reporter: yeah, jon, it s now been more than two weeks since that train derailment, and a lot of people here are still feeling sick despite officials saying the data shows the air and water are safe. and these are just the short-term symptoms from chemical exposure with. what is even more concerning for a lot of folks here is the long-term effects, what things could look like 10-15 years down the road potentially as a result of this disaster. i think we coneed to be concerned about the long-term effects of exposure to this chemical. back in 20 the 12 is the there were hundreds of people who went to the e.r. in the aftermath of that train derailment
Rachel Maddow takes a look at the days top political news stories. Whether a person is too close to the subject of the probe, whether Jeff Sessions would beak be more of a Trump Campaign surrogate who happened to be Attorney General rather than acting as an independent Law Enforcement officer. If sessions didnt recuse after that statement, it would have made him look even more like he was doing trumps bidding. And trump apparently didnt know that making that statement would also as just a general matter of embarrassment, make him look weak and out of the loop about a decision that was already done. Because there were reports that show the Internal Doj Process had already resulted in sessions accepting that nonpartisan Recusal Recommendation from the career staff earlier that week and that Jeff Sessions was already working with doj officials op writing the very rationale they would soon release to the public. In fact, it was barely an hour after trump put that public pressure on session
year? it s a lot. she s getting paid a lot, and i, i m not going to say that this district doesn t have its challenges, but what i m saying is you re getting paid for this, now where s the performance. i feel like she s been in this system long enough that we should be seeing some type of change. somebody needs to be held accountable, and i even look at our elected officials in saying, you know, at what point are we going to hold somebody accountable for what s going on. it shouldn t continue to be like this. and i think that we need answers, and i think that we need people to stop with the attitudes, stop being so angry that they re being questioned and instead listen. you know, say what s going on. jon: yeah. tell us how you re going to fix it, what solutions that you re coming with. and even when you see officials in and administrators put
he said about elijah cummings, about baltimore, about it being disgusting and again rat infested. he used the word infested. what do you make of all that? i think the words of our colleague victor blackwell this past weekend spoke loudly about individuals from baltimore who grew up in baltimore who were hard-working american citizens. just because they live in elijah cummings district doesn t mean they re any less american. the president of the united states is racist. i knew for a period of time we were saying he uses racism as a political currency or to divide people. i think it s fair to say now that the president of the united states is racist, period. now, what we have to ask ourselves is when is the rest of the republican party, when are individuals going to stand up and call this for what it is? baltimore has challenges like many cities in the united states of america. but to only look at black and brown communities what if
from a real estate transaction in western arkansas to linda tripp to monica lewinsky. this is what happens in a special counsel investigation. but the company you keep argument, that s a damning indictment of this president. even if there s no collusion? that s why what mark is describing in terms of the related investigations to the extent we heard from trump surrogates friday night that there was sort of an end zone dance going on regarding the fact there would be no more indictments from the special counsel s office is premature. because there still we still know there were referrals from congress that individuals lied in their testimony. we still know that there are a variety of financial related crimes. there s other prosecutions that still will go take place and there still may be more charges just because they re not brought by the special counsel s office specifically whether they are brought by a u.s. attorney in another district doesn t mean people are out of legal jeop
