The university's decision followed a 'symbolic helmet day' last week on the initiative of District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh and the traffic police's three-day campaign to penalise violators.
To tackle the problem of overspeeding vehicles and traffic rule violations, the rural police and city traffic department have been directed to promptly submit a proposal for interceptor vehicles to the district planning committee. Furthermore, it was emphasized that CCTV cameras should be installed in every lane of the highway and integrated with the police department's software for swift action against violators. In order to mitigate risks, it was decided that heavy vehicles should adhere to a speed limit of 40 km/h between the Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge, reducing the likelihood of accidents. The earlier notification regarding the reduction of fines was rescinded., Pune News, Times Now
