Before First Judicial District Judge Jason Lidyard began Sigfredo Martinezâs May 20 arraignment on multiple rape charges he asked defense and prosecuting attorneys if they had any objections to a reporter screen capturing the proceedings.
Assistant District Attorney Karen Etcitty said, âAs long as the victim isnât shown.â
Defense attorney Tom Clark said âI find it unsavory but I canât argue with freedom of the press.â
Lidyard concurred saying âThese are public courthouses, the peopleâs court and open to anyone. Certainly if we were in person, we would be subject to having our picture taken.â
With no formal objection he moved on to the arraignment.
