Without divulging how he would vote, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson presented what he described as the facts regarding the land the Salvation Army wants to purchase in West Savannah for its proposed transitional shelter. I wanted to take the opportunity to present the facts as they are, as I know them, and the council will vote the way that they will vote on Thursday, and then we will move on, Johnson said. The time that we vote will be the time that we show our opinion on this. And so I ll let my vote do my talking.
Johnson said that there has been much misinformation, diversion, and in some cases, downright lies about the situation. He laid out the facts as he knows them.
He ran for election to share his passion for learning with the community and on behalf of his daughters. He wants to continue to help lead and shape our district into delivering excellence. He said what sets him apart from his challengers is being a nine year member of the current school board. I bring historical insight to all the major projects that have been going on within the district and all the advancements that we have made. I have a great focus to maintain that our curriculums are suited for everyone, he said.
After years of experience participating in School Board meetings as a member of the public, he can effect greater change by serving on the School Board. Getting involved in making things better is important, and it s imperative for good people to stand up and serve, especially at the local level.

MPD Assistant Chief Jeffrey Norman. File photo by Jeramey Jannene.
As the 15th District Alderman, I have very close contact with the 3rd Police District, as it covers almost every square mile of the district I represent. I have frequent contacts with the commander and other personnel from District Three, on topics ranging from specific incidents to crime trends and policing philosophy.
For the past three years I worked very closely with Acting Police Chief
Jeffrey Norman as he served as the commander of District Three (prior to his promotion to assistant chief). As an exemplary member of the MPD command staff, Acting Chief Norman has worked in all three MPD bureaus: Administration, Criminal Investigation Bureau and Patrol. He has literally worked from the ground up within MPD, gradually earning promotions to a point where he commanded more than 200 personnel at District Three and nearly 500 personnel as the executive comman
