Given the revelations at the Zondo Commission and former CEO Andre de Ruyter’s comments about the power utility, it was with total disbelief that I read that the new electricity minister, Kgosientso “Sputla” Ramokgopa says fraud and corruption are not a problem at Eskom. The only conclusion I can arrive at is that he has been placed in this position not to resolve the real problems at Eskom but to try to create the impression that the ANC government is not as corrupt as we are being led to.

Does Mr Pakati (BCM mayor Xola Pakati) actually reside in or has he ever driven right through the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality of which he is so proud? (“BCM residents can be proud of auditor-general’s city’s unqualified audit for city”, DD February 9). Has he tried to have a swim in the sea when the main beaches are closed due to sewage? Has he tried to wash his feet when coming off Bonza Bay beach only to find there is no water in the taps? Has he encountered the non-visibilit.

READER LETTER | Time has come for fat black elders to move aside for the youth

After almost three decades of democracy and freedom, it is no longer valid to say all that is wrong in SA is because of white people, colonialism, and apartheid. What has become explicit is that our black leaders and elders have insulted us and failed to make circumstances good for us. The elders of today are glued to their seats, enjoying their control over a younger generation that is destitute.

READER LETTER | Statues a total waste of taxpayers money

I noticed a tender contract 3224 (advertised DD Jun 14) for “appointment of service provider to provide services to design, construct, supply, deliver and install bronze life-size statues of Steve Tshwete and Victoria Mxenge in Duncan Village”. I and, I’m sure, many other concerned citizens will question this absurd tender in the financially constrained times we are experiencing.
