thought that they could run away from direct conversations about race, but the republicans are actually talking about race over and over again. they re not talking about race the way we want them to talk about race, but they re talking about race. and unfortunately the conversations about what s happening in cities around the country, which is a direct impact of how racial anxiety has been used to push through all sorts of policies of this investment, of giving giveaways too big corporations, all sorts of things that have left our cities in this way, and instead of democrats actually going after it, they talk about these problems are structural. people think folks are in poor or in bad situations because they may have done something to put themselves there. and if the democrats are not willing to actually call out the villains, the corporations, the folks that have benefited from big tax breaks, the ways that our schools and so many other things have been disinvested, we re trying to h
we have neighborhoods that have been disinvested in, we ve had schools that have been disinvested in, we have lack of access to jobs and work. we re paying for that over time. that didn t happen yesterday or in the last five years. wait, let me just get so i think those are some of the things we have to focus on. i want to circle back, though, to that federal resources question that you asked about because there are federal resources that we could use that would help. take, for example, youth jobs. the feds have completely cut youth jobs. we have a huge youth job program the city funds but we don t get any federal support. federal law enforcement support. the u.s. attorney s office here has the lowest rate of gun prosecutions of any u.s. attorney s office in the country and so we could use there s significant federal support we could use to partner with to address this issue. that s what we re looking for. what do you say to people that say you re evading responsibility by pointi
in this. and when i saw what happened in baltimore over these last several days i thought about the pain of black mothers and that our voices really need to be heard and how we can fix our communities. and it isn t just about baltimore, it s about communities all across the country that have been disinvested in where there are not jobs, where young people feel a sense of hopelessness and despair. and we have to get this right. this is our calling to get this right, for all of our sons and our daughters too. do you believe there s a real charge of truth behind the comment of driving while black, that people are stopped and pulled over because they re african-american. is that something you believe happens in maryland? i do believe that when stopped, that there is a circumstance that i know for my son, when i want him to do is to have an engagement if he gets stopped, that doesn t result in him losing his life or being
said he s bringing things in to shepherd this through. sebelius would be in charge by name but do you think that s accurate? i ve done reporting for an upcoming piece that goes further in that direction. sebelius was given a fair amount of latitude. we re going to find in the coming days there were clearly signs, we ve seen some reporting on this today, things were kind of going in the wrong direction. the white house has more or less disinvested from her. inside he s their superstar. there is a lot of overlap between the immigration issue and implementation of the affordable care act. three of the largest states that have the highest percentage of uninsured folks, texas, florida, and california also had a very
lobbyists sweltering or, you know, all over washington. i also think in many ways, it is the case that the media has lost sight of the concessions the democrats sadly made in 2011, both around sequestration and lopping $70 billion out of the budget, but that s because in many ways the democrats haven t managed to tell a story, that the real story in our country today is not about debt and deficits, it s about jobs and investment in a country that is now being disinvested in at the risk of the security of this country. isn t that the point, frank? essentially they ve lost the battle over austerity, despite it s crushed the economy in the u.k. essentially, it s been conceded. we needed to make cuts in government spending. the sequester is a terrible way to do it. we ll be talking about the debt ceiling.
