The Justice Department announced today that it issued a letter to all state attorneys general reminding them of federal constitutional and statutory provisions that protect transgender youth against discrimination, including when those youth seek gender-affirming care.

In response, Newman tweeted the video and thought: “Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door.”

Shortly after Newman posted the video online, Greene tweeted a video of Newman on the House floor promoting the Equality Act on the House floor, with Greene calling Newman’s daughter “your biological son.”
The law, passed in 1976, targeted loitering for the purpose of engaging in prostitution. However, critics blasted it as overly broad, pointing to police harassment especially against transgender women. The law eventually earned the walking while trans name.
