it has become an albatross in terms of deficits in this country. you think about what the president is saying in terms of the continuing resolution argument, paralyzing this congress. and you say, wait a second this is hurting the american economy. it is hurting investor confidence. europe and the banks are in crisis. we see a decline in terms of manufacturing coming from china. there s a global economic crisis that threatens a double dip recession and these guys continue to play games on the republican side. as plouffe was saying to chris this morning, good interview, guess what, these guys don t seem to care. wait a minute, let s take a look at what this latest skirmish. you need a continuing resolution to keep the government open. there s a need for more disaster relief fund because it is almost exhausted. the republicans pass a bill that has disaster relief money in it to the tune of several billion dollars. they pay for it with cuts in green jobs funding.
help the victims of recent disasters like hurricane irene which severely damaged parts of the east coast. later today, the senate is expected to vote on its own budget proposal that does not include spending cuts. and now, live on capitol hill. how close are we to a partial shut down here? clearly treasure is building on both sides because no one wants to be responsible for a government shut down but our government runs out of cash by the end of the day on friday and fema said they would run out of disaster relief money by the late part of this week so clearly, pressure is building. senate republican lindsay graham says we are not headed for a government shut down. the government is not going to shut down because most americans want us to deal with disasters in front of us and disasters to come. that s why we are trying to start to pay for things we have not paid for before. the house proposal is
