need opioid treatment a budget for the year. they did not give to texas and florida and puerto rico the disaster funding which they need. so this has been going on since october first. it s now almost a third of the way through the fiscal year, and the republicans have yet to finish any of those things, they continue to hold each of those programs hostage. so my vote i have to ask you this. and i understand what you re saying. we ve covered the lack of funding for children s health care and the problems in that short-termism approach on the republican side. but i have to ask you on the democratic side, what does your leader, chuck schumer, what does your party get out of closing down the government for one work day and then allowing it to be reopened? well, i think from senator schumer s perspective, he finally has a tday, a date on which there will be ha vote a v the issue of dreamers.

optimistic and hopelessly not happening. i think that s unlikely with what we ve seen this year from the white house. scott, i want to bring you in on the fact that the president, the republicans, had a victory on tax reform, but they have a lot to do. this is on the must-do list in january alone. check this out. they have to do a spending bill so the government stays open. disaster funding, very important. reauthorizing the children s health care, known as c.h.i.p., critically important. daca, or dreamers and board security, and by the way, fixes to obamacare that was promised as part of the tax bill. are they going to be able to get that done in the first month alone? i don t know if it will all happen in the first month. the daca fix can wait until march, and the president can frankly reauthorize the executive order if it doesn t get done in march. i think everything on your list
a couple of other programs, fir fisa, the foreign intelligence courts issue. they want to add money to veterans programs. add money to the department of defense. they ll probably do a separate bill to deal with disaster funding for puerto rico, texas and florida. and then they re hoping to get out of town and not let this moment go to waste here. now, democrats have some cards here. they can make this politically painful for republicans. they can make republicans gather their votes among their own caucus to spend this money, which is not something republicans like to do on their own. it seems that everyone is relatively willing as we stand here at 9:00 in the morning on thursday to take this break here now and come back and start deal with these more complicated issues like daca and keeping the government open for the rest of the fiscal year when they come back in january. yet another short-term fix. garrett haake, i know you ll keep us posted. attorney general jeff sessions lookin
