Storm Sonca hits Thailand Saturday

The Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned people in the Northeast, the East and the Central regions of heavy rain as Tropical Storm Sonca hits Thailand on Saturday.

BMA pairs with RID to tackle floods

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has plans to work with the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) and governors in neighbouring provinces to better manage the city's flood waters during the rainy season.

Troubled waters

Industry leaders are alert to heavier rainfall as flooding can deal a further blow to the economy, though many of them do not believe certain business activities will be drowned as happened in 2011.

Sink or swim for new governor

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, who has now been in the position for three months, faces some major challenges if he wants to solve flood problems in the capital following four days of extremely heavy rainfall last week.

Time for a flood remedy

Fears of a repetition of the 2011 epic flood will haunt city residents in the coming days as heavy rain leads to massive floods in the northern part of the capital and adjacent areas. While the current conditions do not match 2011's huge proportions, the reaction of City Hall does not inspire much hope. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) regardless of who is the elected or appointed governor has reacted to the flooding in the same manner that it did in past years.
