Probe into deaths begins Updated: Updated: Share Article The government-ordered probe into the death of 24 COVID-19 patients in Chamarajanagar commenced on Tuesday. KSRTC Managing Director Shivayogi Kalasad was directed to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within three days. Mr. Kalasad visited the district hospital in Chamarajanagar where the deaths took place and apprised himself of the background information and the sequence of events that culminated in the midnight crisis. He also interacted with medical officers and doctors at the hospital, visited the COVID-19 ward, apart from getting first-hand information of the facilities available there. Mr. Kalasad spoke to a few patients and also the relatives of patients waiting outside the ward.

Patient relatives allege mismanagement; CM calls for emergency meeting tomorrow Chamarajanagar: Over 24 COVID-19 patients died in Chamarajanagar and according to the District Administration as many as 12 patients died due to lack of oxygen as the hospital ran short of supply of the critical gas and other patients died due to various co-morbidities. The deaths occurred at COVID-19 Health Centre in the District where the patients were being treated.  The District Administration has also said that only a proper death audit would reveal whether the patients died due to oxygen shortage or due to other reasons. Following the deaths, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has asked Chamarajanagar District Minister Suresh Kumar and Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar to rush to the District and take stock of the situation.

Congress seeks judicial probe into COVID deaths Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Opposition Congress has demanded a judicial probe into the death of 23 COVID-19 patients at the district hospital in Chamarajanagar, allegedly owing to shortage of oxygen. Speaking to reporters after a virtual meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah demanded the probe by a committee headed by a district court judge. The probe by IAS officer and KSRTC Managing Director Shivayogi Kalasad would not bring out real facts and provide justice to families who had lost their members, he said. Besides resignation of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Health and Family Welfare Minister K. Sudhakar and district in-charge Minister S. Suresh Kumar for the tragedy, the Congress leader demanded compensation of ₹25 lakh to the families for the loss of lives. The officials who were responsible for the deaths should be suspended, he demanded.
