The OâHara Commons is closing out the imperfect 2020 year with a new category on their Local Foods Market storefront with items called âimperfects.â
Executive Director Samantha OâByrne said it started with their gleaning program that began four years ago with anyone contacting them to help harvest and distribute produce.
âWe just go and pick it up,â OâByrne said. âWe have our certified kitchen if we need to process it at all and then we redistribute it to the community.â
The gleaning program has processed and redistributed close to 10,000 pounds of food. The first year included 3,700 pounds of apples in one day with seven volunteers and 49 hours.
