to look at the president and say i m giving you everything when asked for the wall and when pressed admitted he wasn t doing it. that s the type of negotiation that mr. schumer has been engaged in. that s the point of this disagreement you mentioned there. go ahead, please. what mr. mulvaney is saying doesn t ring true. he knows that schumer never offered $20 billion to build a wall. we all believe that somehow there would be the kind of netiation whe mbe in the interest of securit and some other kinds of things that maybe an agreement could be reached. but certainly not a $20 billion agreement for a wall. and i believe mr. schumer and i think most people do. this president just does not have a reputation for telling the truth. as a matter of fact, it has been documented that he has told over 2,000 lies just in the one year
i know there s been some question saying that there s, i think, senator schumer today said there s lack of clarity as to what the white house is asking for. i don t think there s lack of clarity. here are the principles we set up in september. seven pages sent up to cess saying here are the things we re asking for in the four broad categories. over the course of the negotiations and conversations there s a sense that it needs to be refined. we sent back several weeks ago a document that pulled off some of the items we were asking for off the table, particularly on interior enforcement. then there were meetings at the white house, bipartisan in nature, republicans and democrats that many of you covered and was shown to the national audience. in that conversation again there was agreement that there would be four principles leading negotiations. kevin mccarthy, senator durbin, senator cornyn, steny hoyer. that is the process we put in place. and continues to focus on those four principle
democratic party. they ve pushed their leadership to say we want something to shut down the government. meaning they look back and say the largest tax cut in history, repealed individual mandate. they look at the regulatory rollback. they look what s happen with $7 trillion added to the stock markets and see more circuit court judges ever confirmed in one year, new supreme court justice confirmed. those are things we look as tremendous progress. but they re captive by a small base in their party and they re saying we demand a shutdown. i do think they re related. they look at the accomplishments and all that this administration has accomplished and their reaction is because we can t beat them, we re going to shut down the government. director mulvaney, for the benefit of the public, can you go over i have another substantive question on the politics. but on entitlement payments, social security, medicare, can you, for the public, let them know what will happen regardless how long t
