Tigers Start Strong at ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C.  The opening day of the 2022 championships proved promising for the Clemson track and field program, as several Tigers earned spots in the finals for their respective events. Most notably, three Tigers will compete in the 200 meter dash championship on Saturday, and Jevon Williams secured the fastest time in the 400 meter hurdles, putting him in a tie for tenth on Clemson's all-time top-10 list for the event. HIGHLIGHTS Three Tigers qualified for the 200 meter dash finals. Wanya McCoy set a personal best 20.64 and finished second in prelims. Guinove Joanus's 20.84 time sent him through to finals while Cameron Rose followed just behind with 20.85. Binnix Sets Four PR s on First Day of ACC Championships – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

BLACKSBURG, Va. – On the first day of competition at the ACC Championship Meet, Ethan Binnix set personal bests in all four of the day’s heptathlon events. His 7.29 in the 60 meter dash, 5.88m long jump, 10.39 shot put, and 1.53 meter high jump set on Thursday are all his new top marks.  The day concluded with the women’s and men’s distance medley relay, with the Clemson team of Andrea Foster, Mackenzie Osher, Brynne Sumner and Josie Wirtz finishing the relay in 11:33.37. The men’s relay team of Cole Myers, Aman Thornton, Carson Tillman and Michael Smith finished with their season-best time of 9:51.67. CLEMSON, S.C.  The Clemson men's track team was ranked No. 20 in the country in the initial rankings released by the USTFCCCA on Monday. The Tigers are one of six ACC teams nationally-ranked teams. Program Director Mark Elliott's squad has had a strong start to their 2022 season, setting at least three all-time top-10 marks in each of its four meets to this point. As the season approaches its championship phase, Elliott is confident about where his team stands and feels its latest ranking is an indicator of what is to come. I'm excited that we're ranked. they have already started showing out early. Being nationally ranked is a testament to how good of a team we have right now. Most recently, Devon Brooks won the 60 meter hurdles event at the Hokie Invitational with a time of 7.64 seconds, good for the third-best mark in Clemson history. Rojé Stona has impressed in the shot put, throwing a PR 19.14m and moving himself ever-closer to the top mark in school history.
