As more people get vaccinated and more businesses are able to open up, many Illinois families are still struggling to pay their rents and their mortgages until they can get back to work.
Rodrigo Carrillo, director of strategic initiatives for the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), says helping people stay in their homes until they can get back on their feet is Illinois’ goal.
The IHDA aims to distribute over $500 million in rental and mortgage assistance for 2021.
The housing crisis of 2008 taught us that it is cheaper and more cost-effective to keep people in their homes, Carrillo told Illinois Radio Network.
