Maine COVID vaccine rollout: York County town leaders feel out of loop
State and county officials say they, too, are dealing with constricted flow of intel
KITTERY, Maine – Early on in the pandemic, when Maine began documenting its very first cases of COVID-19, some local leaders expressed concern about the state s responsiveness to the needs of its southernmost communities.
Kittery Town Manager Kendra Amaral said it felt like municipal leaders in southern York County had to ring alarm bells loudly and publicly to get state leaders in Augusta to recognize that the circumstances on the ground in Maine s southern tip, where residents live closer to Boston than to their own state s capital, were quite a bit different from the circumstances in Maine s central or northern regions.
