In a Monday news release, Whitman County Public Health said it will recommend the Pullman School District adopt revised guidance concerning in-person instruction for the 2021 school year.
According to the release, in counties considered high risk â where the two-week average is higher than 350 cases per 100,000 people â school districts are advised to only offer in-person instruction for elementary and high-need students in groups of 15 or fewer.
Whitman County is considered high risk with 184 cases in the past two weeks, equal to roughly 367 cases per 100,000 people.
Pullman Superintendent Bob Maxwell said the change will not affect the districtâs Jan. 4 plan to shift from an online format to a hybrid form of instruction, starting with kindergarten and first grade, with higher grade levels added every couple of weeks. It does appear the guidance would allow for in-person learning in small groups.
