Starring Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin. The world’s tallest mountain has seen people from all across the globe attempt to conquer it, this time Hollywood takes a crack. It is based on the events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, in which eight climbers died in a blizzard, and focuses on the survival attempts of two expedition groups, one led by Kiwi Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and the other by American Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal). Director Baltasar Kormakur deviates from the true story but, in a dazzling piece of film making, brings the beauty and brutality of Everest to life. While a little slow at first, it’s still a good old fashioned adventure movie which builds to a devastating end. ★★★★
