that is short lived now and has no impact. joe. right by the way, again the united nations is transactional in the sense that we work with other countries, other countries work with us. and it s just like any relationship. sometimes you agree with the other person or the other company. sometimes you don t. this would be like ibp and bank of america negotiating a deal this week. and the deal doesn t work out. right. so the head of bank of perk, brian goes out and he condemns ibm and tells everybody else, we will remember this. we will never have another deal with ibm. no, that itself not how business works. that s not how diplomacy works. that s not how the united nations works. as bill clinton says, there s always tomorrow. there s always a vote you will need tomorrow f. they voted
viable option of a diplomatic outcome right now? i do. i absolutely do, kate. but it s going to require, as all diplomacy does, it s going to require compromise. we re going to be able to have to give the north something. maybe it s a recognition that they have the capability, even though we want to see a denuclearized peninsula but wasn t one of the last things we heard from president trump, was that the goal was they totally denuclearize north korea? yeah. that doesn t seem and kate, it still can be done. and i think that s still the right policy. it s the policy that the two administrations prior had. and it can still be what we duoto, eventually. but maybe in the interim, you ve got to acknowledge that they have this capability and use that as a place to sit down at the table. because they want this recognition, for sure. they want the world to know that they have this capability. maybe we just need to compromise a little bit more than we have so far. i think that s r
he would watch u.s. behavior and if the united states in their view acted recklessly north korea said they would potentially go forward with the launch towards guam, and since then president trump called kim jong-un little rocket man and there has been a lot of rhetoric coming out of the white house, and things have been quiet out of north korea the past couple weeks, which leads me to believe the joint drills might be the time when they do this and we will have to see how the u.s. responds. we heard the white house chief of staff, john kelly, speak in a rare public appearance yesterday about north korea and what a threat it is and they are increasing the ability at re-entry for the rockets, and he said, look, i hope diplomacy works, and we are hoping for diplomacy here. what about the north koreans, you have been speaking about the north koreans and do they feel the same about diplomacy? that was a very cryptic message from chief of staff
on what it means to be chief of staff in what has been an extremely chaotic white house with a ton of turnover. this was an opportunity to do that in front of the cameras and salespeople for himself and an opportunity for them to foreshadow some of the big decisions on his plate right now. if all you see are his tweets and suggestions, talking about fire and fury, that could be a little unsettling. that is not what we heard today from general kelly if you look at, for instance, his rhetoric. he was very forthcoming about his level of concern. about the threat that north korea could pose to the united states and u.s. territories, but he said that i hope diplomacy works. that is a very different tone that what we have heard from the president, but gives you an indication that not everyone in the white house is running
