Quigley s goal in vain as Barrow still a point adrift of safety

STRUGGLING Barrow slipped to their fourth straight defeat after losing 2-1 at home to Morecambe (writes Shane McDermott). Striker Scott Quigley’s sixth goal in ten games was in vain as battling Barrow’s disappointing run of results continued. The Bluebirds are a point adrift of safety, but have two vital games in hand over closest relegation rivals Southend – who lost at home to Bolton. Aaron Wildig opened the scoring before the break with Quigley levelling after the hour mark. But barely a minute later Mellor fired promotion-chasing Morecambe to victory at Holker Street. And the scoreline could have been worse had it not been for a string of fine saves from Joel Dixon.

Battling Barrow put on the back foot by Bradford – match report

Barrow 1 [Quigley 37 (P)] BARROW were the architects of their own downfall as early goals in each half condemned them to a 2-1 defeat at Bradford. Danny Rowe opened the scoring to mark his home debut in style. Centre-back Anthony O’Connor fouled Scott Quigley in the box and handed the Bluebirds a lifeline with the striker bagging his fifth goal in seven games. But Callum Cooke struck after the break to ensure Bradford’s new management duo are yet to taste defeat. Michael Jolley’s battling Barrow remain just two points above the relegation zone, but crucially have two games in hand.

Barrow sign former Town defender Dion Donohue

The versatile 27-year-old has been without a club since leaving Swindon in December for personal reasons. Barrow boss Michael Jolley said on the Bluebirds’ official website: “We felt that Dion will add to the options that we’ve got. “He can play two positions; he is comfortable as a left-side defender and left-back or he can play in midfield as well – he’s experienced, versatile and adds to our options. “He was playing in League One for most of the first half of this season so he’s a good player, he’s got quality and he definitely brings something to the group.”

Swindon Town s potential list of Christmas wishes for 2021

A BRAND NEW STRIKER (or two) Despite having scored the joint-most number of goals in League One from 11th placed Sunderland downwards this term, the widespread calls from almost everyone at the club to bring a new forward are almost deafening. A genuine target man who can occupy the hulking great brutes that litter English football’s third tier would go a long way to ensuring Town can spend more time out of their own half, and thus hopefully reducing the number of defensive mistakes that have been made. If this wish comes true, it should allow Tyler Smith and Brett Pitman to do what they do best – score goals.
