Pope Francis appointed six new bishops for the dioceses of Jabalpur, Meerut, Kumbakonam, Kuzhithurai, and Karwar and an auxiliary bishop for Vijayapuram, on January 13. He accepted the resignations presented by Bishop Gerald Almeida of Jabalpur, Bishop Antonysamy Francis of Kumbakonam, and Bishop Kannikadass Antony William of Mysore.
