Overturned semi blocks access to commercial truck border crossing in Otay Mesa

OTAY MESA    A semi-truck overturned and slammed into a power pole early Wednesday, closing the road leading to the commercial crossing at the U.S.-Mexico border in Otay Mesa. The solo-vehicle crash was reported shortly after 6:20 a.m. on La Media Road just north of Siempre Vive Road. The driver was not injured. OnScene TV reported that the truck was hauling pecans. The truck went off the road and damaged a power pole, said police Officer Dino Delimitros. San Diego Gas and Electric Co. was notified and utility workers were expected to arrive on site around 8 a.m. to begin making repairs, Delimitros said.

San Diego police looking for hit-and-run driver who injured pedestrian in City Heights

SAN DIEGO     San Diego police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who ran into a pedestrian early Wednesday and then took off. The victim was struck by the vehicle on University Avenue near Interstate 15 shortly after 5:30 a.m., said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros. The woman who was struck by the car was conscious and breathing and suffered minor lacerations to one of her hands. She was taken to the hospital to be treated. Police were looking for a silver car with front-end damage. It was last seen heading west on University, Delimitros said.

Man, 53, hospitalized after drive-by shooting in Valencia Park

SAN DIEGO     A 53-year-old man was hospitalized following a drive-by shooting in the Valencia Park neighborhood Tuesday night, police said. The shooting was reported about 8:45 p.m. on Churchward Street near Los Alamos Drive, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said. Investigators determined the victim was sitting in his car when another car drove by and opened fire, hitting the victim in the back and one of his legs, Officer Dino Delimitros said. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Delimitros said. Advertisement The victim was unable to provide a description of the shooter, Heims said. The suspect vehicle was described as a tan or gold sedan that was last seen heading toward Imperial Avenue.

Robbers targeted smoke shop in Rolando neighborhood

SAN DIEGO    San Diego police were searching for three robbers two men and a woman who targeted a smoke shop in the Rolando neighborhood Tuesday. The trio entered the Payless Smoke Shop on El Cajon Boulevard near the intersection with Montezuma Road about 10:20 a.m. One of the men pulled out a handgun and “made a demand,” Officer Dino Delimitros said. Police had not determined “the loss,” Delemitros said. The trio made off in a silver Acura LT. Advertisement The gunman was said to be thin, in his 20s and 5 feet 9 inches tall. The other man was described as thin, in his 20s and 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was waring a black jacket. The woman was said to be in her 20s, 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a medium build. She was wearing a black jacket.
