The Gujarat police on Tuesday detained and later released a dozen Hindu right wing activists for allegedly protesting against a group of girls wearing burqa at a school in Surat.
SURAT: Political atmosphere is warming up in the city with the PAAS leader Alpesh Kathiriya claiming that a dozen Congress candidates from the Patidar-dominated wards will withdraw their candidature.
Source said the PAAS leaders had submitted a list of probable candidates from the Patidar community to the Congress party which was rejected. The Congress gave a mandate to Dharmik Malaviya from PAAS leader to contest from ward 3 in Varachha. This irked the PAAS leaders and they decided to part ways with Congress.
Malaviya. however, did not file his nomination papers after Kathiriya withdrew support.
Talking with TOI, Kathiriya said, “More than 12 Congress candidates will withdraw their nominations in support of PAAS. For those, who consider party above community, they will get the answer on February 21.”
