Port Clinton Police Department may offer background checks for a fee

PORT CLINTON - City officials are looking into the prospect of generating additional revenue from two services provided by the Port Clinton Police Department.  Port Clinton City Council members are considering two ordinances that would establish fees charged for when local police officers serve warrants and subpoenas, as well as for performing criminal background checks.  “When the Ottawa County Municipal Court sends out subpoenas or warrants, the Port Clinton Police Department delivers those within the city of Port Clinton,” said Dina Shenker, city law director.  Shenker explained that the city has not been charging for that service previously but there is local precedent to do so as the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office does charge a fee, along with mileage.
