SMITHFIELD – Town Council President Suzy Alba is being investigated by the Rhode Island Ethics Commission regarding a complaint by local businessman Alfred Costantino related to her vote on the purchase of the $1.2 million Camp Shepard property.
Minutes from the Dec. 8 Rhode Island Ethics Commission meeting noted that the commission voted unanimously that Costantino’s complaint authorized an investigation.
The decision noted that the initial determination is a preliminary vote, and “should not be construed as an opinion regarding the truth of the facts alleged in the complaint,” and is only a vote to investigate allegations.
Costantino filed a complaint in November with the Rhode Island Ethics Commission stating that Alba attended Town Council meetings, including closed session meetings, about the purchase of the Camp Shepard purchase despite being an abutter to the property.
