KABUL (Pajhwok): A UN-led conference on fast-tracking the Afghan peace process is likely to be held in Turkey in the last week of May or first week of June, says a news report.
Earlier in the month, the Istanbul summit on Afghanistan had to be postponed in the wake of Taliban’s refusal to attend the event.
High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Deputy Chairman Haji Din Mohammad said on Wednesday he expected the talks would happen within weeks.
TOLOnews quoted Mohammad as saying the Taliban and the US were holding talks on the complete withdrawal of foreign forces. He believed the Americans would be out of leave Afghanistan by early July.
HCNR Official Expects Istanbul Summit in Late May or Early June
Haji Din Mohammad, the deputy head of the High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR), on Wednesday said that the UN-led conference on Afghanistan is expected to convene in the last week of May or first week of June. Originally, the conference was scheduled for April 24, however, it was postponed due to the lack of participation of the Taliban.
According to Haji Din Mohammad, the Taliban are now in talks with the US about the complete withdrawal of foreign forces from the country, and, according to his analysis, the Americans will completely leave Afghanistan in early July.

The police said a man opened fire on Malik Khana Gul, former peace body chief, in Darwazagi area of Safi tehsil, leaving him seriously injured. The police shifted the injured to a Peshawar hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Blinken Assures US Will Not Disengage from Afghanistan
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday assured that the United States will not disengage from Afghanistan despite withdrawing its troops from the country. We ve also been clear that even as our forces are drawing down and pulling out of Afghanistan, we are not withdrawing, we are not disengaging, Blinken said at a press conference in London with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
“We intend to be very active diplomatically in terms of trying to advance negotiations in a political settlement between the government of Afghanistan, the Taliban and other key parties,” Blinken said.
