It has been almost two months since cinema halls re-opened in the state post the Covid-19 lockdown, but operators are still waiting for higher footfall. Multiplexes and several single screens had opened with 50% occupancy norms in place. Moreover, though the Centre allowed theatres to open with 100% occupancy from February, the Odisha government is yet to implement this in the state. While multiplexes are claiming that they have witnessed reasonable footfall in the last one month, the owners of single-screen theatres are not happy with the number of viewers turning out for shows. More importantly, according to them, they are incurring even more losses after reopening the halls. Some single screens have not reopened at all and have decided to wait till the situation changes completely.
