across north and west texas. bracing for what could have been one of the biggest outbreaks of wildfires in state history. the texas forest service now says fifth verse gotten the upper hand finally. six new fires that started today were quickly brought under control. and that is north of the texas border. that s in oklahoma today. the governor extended a state of emergency for seven counties to help battle wildfires. a prolonged drought isn t helping, and fire fighters on the ground and in the air battle hot spots for this enormous grass fire near the town of cleveland. more than 350 people were forced to flee the area. so far, there have been no reports of injuries. and folks in fargo, north dakota, are breathing a little easier tonight. that s because so far those dikes and sandbags holding back the bloated red river have worked. the river crested at near 40 feet earlier today.

rainfall goes. we are seeing it across the dakotas, and the red river of the north actually flows to the north into winnipeg lake. the river has already crested in fargo. it s about the fourth highest crest i ve seen. the other two highest, 1997 and 2009. the rainfall they re expecting across this region is about a quarter of an inch, maybe. that would be a maximum amount we re cieseeing across this reg. but remember, whatever fargo has seen, grand forks is going to see down the line. so they haven t seen theirs crest just yet, but they are under a flood warning. the river is going to continue to rise. they will see showers but could see 30-mile-per-hour wind gusts, and i know people walk along the dike. i know that s how some people get their exercise. this is not the time to do it because the water is going to be splashed up along those dikes
