Held virtually, ADGSOM1 will be headed by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek. The meeting is expected to begin with the opening remarks by Phavanhna Douangboupha of Lao PDR, the outgoing Chair. Among the agenda to be discussed during the two-day meeting are ASEAN ICT Fund (AICTF), ASEAN Digital Master Plan 2025 (ADM 2025), the implementation of the 2020 work cycle activities and their deliverables, and report of the first ASEAN Cybersecurity Coordinating Committee meeting.

Asean well prepared to accelerate growth of digital economy, says Vietnam

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 19 (Bernama): Asean countries are well-placed and well prepared to accelerate the growth of the digital economy besides having the good political will and well-designed master plan for digitalisation in the future, said Vietnam s ambassador to Malaysia Dr Tran Viet Thai. He said Asean members have a good vision and a good number of online population besides a fairly developed Information Technology (IT) infrastructure to accelerate the growth of the digital economy. The COVID-19 pandemic has further reinforced the importance of digitalisation to the life of the people, (and) to the socio-economic or even security of any country,” he told Bernama in an email interview in conjunction with the inaugural Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN1) and related meetings from Jan 18-22, hosted by Malaysia and to be held via videoconference.

VIETNAM NEWS JANUARY 18  18/01/2021    21:49 GMT+7 Preparations underway for upcoming elections Joint efforts have been made to prepare for the upcoming elections, heard a meeting of the National Election Council (NEC) in Hanoi on January 18. It was reported at the second meeting of the NEC that the council has joined hands with the NA Standing Board, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in the preparation work. As of January 14, the issuance of documents regarding the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature, and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure has been completed. Efforts have been made to ensure security and safety for the elections, according to chief of the office of the NEC Nguyen Hanh Phuc. Meanwhile, election committees have been set up swiftly in localities.
