Competition Commission of India (CCI) chairperson Ravneet Kaur said, "We are already enforcing regulations under the extant law to ensure fair competition in the digital market. We have investigated digital players (Google and Apple) and ecommerce players (Amazon and Flipkart) under the existing competition law and regulations. So, we don t plan to bring in fresh regulations until the government takes a decision on whether there is a need for a new law to regulate tech players."

A high-level Committee on the Digital Competition Law is likely to establish a set of "dos and don ts" for systemically important digital intermediaries, with criteria based on nature of business, turnover, and user base, according to sources. The panel, chaired by Manoj Govil, corporate affairs secretary, will establish these intermediaries to check the ability of big tech to distort fair trade.
