Refunds continue to remain ever elusive for e-commerce customers who were not delivered products against advance payments, with the process facing a new hiccup yesterday.
The commerce ministry would ask Bangladesh Bank to start providing customers with refunds of advance payments that were made to e-commerce firms but got stuck with payment gateways for non-delivery of goods, said a senior official yesterday.
Every e-commerce and F-commerce company in Bangladesh will soon have to apply for a Unique Business Identification Number (UBIN) from the Digital Commerce Cell (DCC) as the commerce ministry is set to launch the registration from this month.
The commerce ministry has written to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to defreeze the accounts to return Tk 214 crore that got stuck in payment gateways due to e-commerce companies' failure to deliver products against the payments.
