what do you make of it? will she get a bump in the polls just from coming out and making the announcement? yes, i think she will. we ve seen that from those in the gop that vi e have announced and i think we ll see that from more in the gop and possibly the democratic side that have announced and historically we see that. i expect a bump to her favorability, popularity and perhaps even trustworthyiness next week. which has taken a hit. as we discussed the other night. marc, is this the beginning of a new chapter for hillary clinton where the problems we ve discussed over the past months will start to fade away? you mean is she going to get a reset? it didn t work with russia i don t think it s going to work with her campaign. i think democrats ought to be worried. hillary clinton seems to have all the pension for scandal that her husband had but without the political charm or talent to survive it. people were comforting themselves about the e-mail and clinton foundation by saying
all right. the panel is back at the table. time to get caught up on some of the other headlines making news right now. let s start with the chicago tribune, the first page out in the windy city. face to face with the voters. this is it judgment day. this coming tuesday. 48 hours now for rahm emanuel, the former chief of staff to president obama, congressman before that. he s the mayor of chicago. now he s been forced into a runoff by jesus garcia. there was talk at the start of the campaign emanuel was in danger of losing. but now the latest poll says emanuel is pulling away. it looks like he ll get re-elected. i know you were just in chicago. what s going on out there? i was told by the new york times this was a referendum on liberalism or everyone rising up against the emanuel style. there s only been one poll that showed a single digit lead. people are a bit dissatisfied. i don t know that chuy is the
holding a double. digit lead over chuy garcia. the results mark the first time since emanuel has a majority of supporters backing him for a second term. emanuel has 51% con compared to 37% for garcia 11% remain undecided. tribune says mounting support from african-american voters is crucial to emanuel s uptick in the polls. the run up to the election will be held on april 7th. speaking of city government, i read a remarkable story in the washington post a couple weeks ago. maybe it was last week, jonathan capehart, the demographic makeup of d.c. is changing and it s going to impact elections around here. you know remember this is a majority democratic city for no. yeah, for a while. guaranteed in d.c. serious? but it s also but it s also a majority african-american city at least it was.
but as a pure house number, it doesn t really mean that much to me. so a year after a presidential election as we all know, political geeks at least know, these are the important races that everybody is watching. new york city s mayor, but then on a broader level, there is new jersey governor, this year, there is also a new jersey senate race, not normally the case, then there is virginia governor. right. is this affecting those races in any way that you can see? yeah. i think terry mcauliffe moved democratic candidate in virginia, actually moved into an almost double digit lead. it s over last week or so. so a lot of people are pointing at the government shutdown. he was a few points ahead, now he s 9, 10, 11 points ahead. that s an issue. i think what you re seeing, i hope what we ll see in the next few days is more and more republicans who do run state-wide, republican senators
this is a jersey combo. let me start with cory booker. a couple of ads out, booker has a negative ad on longegan and super pac going after booker. he privatized social security, shut down government. ban all abortion, steve lonegan, too extreme. mark zuckerberg gave $100 million, booker said he would use it to fix failing schools. did he? no. some people are intrigued by the double digit lead, but not what people expected from booker. a double digit lead is a double digit lead. it s almost like your team wins by three touchdowns. instead of five or six the die-hard fans really want to show the big blowout. a 12-point lead is still big.
