Actress Kangana Ranaut
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday threatened to leave Twitter, stating that she will soon join the indigenous Twitter-like app Koo. Kangana threatened to leave Twitter after the social media site issued a statement saying that it will not take action against accounts that consist of news media entities, journalists, activists, and politicians. Twitter had been asked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to block a number of accounts over the ongoing farmer protests in the country.
Koo said it has so far verified handles of MeitY, MyGov, Digital India, India Post, National Informatics Centre (NIC), National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Common Services Centre, UMANG app, Digi Locker, National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), among others, on its platform.
To provide a boost to its initial membership, even union ministers were seen on this day promoting the app with promises of "exciting and exclusive updates".
