(NEWTON) The work continues by cleanup crews to re-open the section of Illinois Route 33 between Dieterich and Wheeler in Jasper County after the Canadian National Railroad derailment occurred this past Tuesday night in the 9:00 hour. Officials say eleven of the train’s cars left the tracks, some of which fell to the north side of the rail tracks, spilling their loads of corn onto Route 33 which runs alongside the railway. Both the engineer and conductor on the train were not injured and no hazardous material was involved, only corn. The railroad crews have been on site cleaning up the area since yesterday morning. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County EMS, and the Dieterich Fire Department is assisting at the scene.
