My Journey: A Personal Story by Kingsley Moghalu
As a young man out of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (Enugu Campus) in the mid-80s, I consciously sought and acquired experience that would position me for leadership on the world stage and in my country. First I did my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment as a Legal Officer at Shell Nigeria HQ in Lagos.
First class global multinational. Dominant in Nigeria’s petroleum industry. I worked hard as a “Corper” and was kept very professionally busy by my supervisors Dr. V.O. Achimu the Company Secretary and Head of Legal, and Mrs. Efe Omole, a senior corporate lawyer in Shell. Then I joined Newswatch, founded by Nigeria’s most influential journalists of that era, the quartet Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu, Dan Agbese, and Yakubu Mohammed, as its general counsel. In media, ’twas THE PLACE.

The event, which was held in Uzbek, English and Russian languages, featured Supreme Court Judges and high-level judges from Slovenia, United Kingdom, United States and Uzbekistan. Moreover, international experts, like Diego Garcia-Sayan, UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, also shared their insights on the need for strengthening judicial processes and maintaining a balanced use of digital technologies in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, on 5 May 2021, UNESCO participated in a virtual roundtable on the Role of Prosecutors in Proceedings against Journalists, organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Prosecutor General Office Academy of Uzbekistan. The virtual roundtable centred around the legal protections for journalists and media workers. It included an address by James Callahan, Senior Program Advisor for the U.S. State Department’s INL Bureau, which funded the event, along with a video message from UNESCO

SAN SALVADOR: A political storm has erupted in El Salvador as its parliament, newly controlled by President Nayib Bukele’s party, dismissed the attorney general and top judges deemed hostile to the populist leader.
Opposition parties denounced the move as a “coup,” while Washington and rights groups expressed grave concern even as Bukele celebrated the first step in “cleaning our house.”
