World Champs Idre Fjäll 2021 – Snowboard Cross preview
Snowboard 08 Feb 2021
It wasn’t an easy path to get here, but the world’s best snowboard cross athletes have made it to Sweden and are ready to get out of the start gate at the premier event of the 2020/21 season – the Idre Fjall 2021 FIS Snowboard Cross World Championships.
Due to the development of the covid-19 pandemic and the implemented measures by the Chinese health authorities and government, the originally scheduled FIS Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships in Zhangjiakou (CHN) had to be cancelled earlier this season. However, the disappointment of that news was soon wiped away when the organisers in Idre stepped up to offer a solution for ski and snowboard cross competition at their iconic venue.
Second Ski Cross World Cup cancellation in a row in Feldberg Sunday, 31 January 2021
No racing was possible for the second day running in Feldberg, meaning neither of the last two International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cups before the World Championships could take place.
A first batch of World Cup races at the German venue had already been cancelled yesterday, and the weather was once again not fit for competition.
Attention will now turn to Idre Fjäll in Sweden - the location of the last World Cup races to be staged - as it is due to play host to the FIS Cross World Championships from February 11 to 13.
At this time of year, my wife Sofie gets incredibly homesick for her native Sweden and her family tradition of travelling north to the snowy mountains of Idre. I’ve never really taken to skiing, however, what I can get on board with is the après-ski dishes that follow all that hard work, and while we are dreaming of a snow-capped winter break while stuck in lockdown, we can transport ourselves one cheesy stodgy dish at a time. Despite Swedes being fairly health conscious, they do love comfort food. So this week’s recipes are all about Alpine stodge a weekend treat to break up the monotony of weekday cooking. Rosti, crispy shredded potato cakes doused in butter, were one of my favourite things when I was growing up. They’d be gobbled up as quick as they left the pan. In this recipe, one large rosti is served up with all the trimmings smokey ham, cornichons, pickled onions and melting
Rogla in Slovenia steps in to host FIS Alpine Snowboard World Championship Thursday, 28 January 2021
Rogla in Slovenia has stepped in to host the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Snowboard World Championships in March.
This year s Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships were scheduled to be held in Zhangjiakou in China from February 18 to 28.
Competition was due to double up as a test event for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, but those plans were scuppered after the Chinese Government banned almost all international competitions from taking place in the country.
This ban was imposed in response to fears over a second wave of COVID-19 hitting China.
