However, the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors expressed a general consensus Tuesday that volunteers could once again cover the courthouse lawn in hundreds of American flags. I think it would really be a disaster if they didn t put the flags up — for God s sake, we ve got to put the flags up, Supervisor Tim Fairchild said. If somebody s willing to do it, get them up.

Kim Reynolds announced the first three cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed in the state. Wednesday, the governor was vaccinated against the respiratory virus live during a morning press conference as a demonstration to Iowans that the vaccine is safe. An estimated 5,500 deaths in Iowa have been related to the virus — almost 40 of them in Dickinson County. The governor watched as a vaccine developed by pharmaceutical company Johnson and Johnson was injected into her left arm as well as the arms of her husband and Iowa Department of Public Health Director Kelly Garcia. The vaccine is the latest to be granted emergency authorization for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Unlike the two vaccines granted authorization ahead of it — developed by companies Pfizer and Moderna — the Johnson and Johnson
