February: Quite the holiday month! Boomer Blog - Shirley Scott True to form, I belatedly realized the current and shortest month of the year offers the most opportunities to celebrate. Besides the one federal holiday, there are a couple of other popular observances – not even counting the ones we have already missed: National Tater Tot Day and National Nutella Day. As February dawned, I was digitally thumbing through archived copies of the UDC to determine how Champaign Countians celebrated Valentine’s Day in years past. However, it occurred to me I really ought to first check out local observances of Groundhog Day – long before Punxsutawney Phil and Bill Murray gained national prominence.

New art director, new vice president of development named at Bacone College

Dec 29, 2020 Michael Elizondo Jr. MUSKOGEE – Bacone College announced Monday that Oglala Lakota artist Gerald Cournoyer has been promoted to vice president of development. Cournoyer has directed the Bacone College School of Indian Art program since 2018. Michael Elizondo Jr., Cheyenne, has been appointed as the new director of the Bacone College School of Indian Art. “Gerald is a great ambassador for Bacone College. He can tell our true story, the challenging and difficult times we’ve been through, and our transformation,” President Dr. Ferlin Clark said. “Gerald rolled up his sleeves and physically, mentally, culturally, and spiritually engrossed himself in the rebuilding of our historic art program after it was discontinued several years before. It is time now for him to lead our fundraising efforts to help Bacone College continue to thrive in our effort to refocus on our American Indian mission and our commitment to our American Indian stud
