Church marks Maine s COVID toll with 500 white ribbons, 1 pink

One ribbon does not look like the others. Rev. Diane Wendorf stood on the church’s front steps Tuesday and held up a ribbon affixed to one of the railings. It was pink. And while the ribbon was a different color than the others, that was not its only distinction. The white ribbons bore only a number, signifying how many Mainers had died with the virus at the moment each white strip was tied. The pink ribbon had a name: Louise Knight. Knight, 93, of Sanford, died from the virus Jan. 4. She was a member of the North Parish church. “She was a very generous soul, very down to earth,” Wendorf said. “She loved people. She was a delight. She embraced people so much.”
