Canada s Federal Court, Ottawa
Mowi Canada West, the largest salmon farmer in British Columbia, last night filed an application in the Federal Court of Canada for an injunction against a federal government decision which it says will force it to kill millions of fish.
Mowi said the government was compelling it to commence with layoff notices to 168 employees and the killing of more than 12 million healthy juvenile Atlantic salmon (at various stages of the lifecycle).
Dr Diane Morrison, Managing Director, Mowi West, said: “This is the equivalent of more than 235 million meals lost.
“We were shocked last December 17th when Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan announced the end of salmon farming in the Discovery Islands effective June 2022,.

The Coldwater Township Board Monday declined to allocate more than $15,000 to repave 5.1 miles of its local roads this summer after Branch County Road Commission Manager Jay Miller informed them the proposed township share would be $22,542.
The dispute rekindles an old issue of whether townships must contribute at all to local road construction or maintenance under Michigan law.
Township Supervisor Don Rogers, a member of the Michigan Township Association Board of Directors said “The township is not responsible for maintenance of local roads. The township is not responsible for roads, period.”
This includes any liability for local roads.

Toronto Sunpreviously reported some cabbies didn’t receive their renewal notices in the mail after moving addresses. It wasn’t until months later well beyond the 90-day grace period did they get a call from MLS inspectors indicating they had to give back their plates. Some drivers said these cancelled plates were being removed by bylaw officers who came unannounced, sometimes in the night.
