closure of the beaches might not just be for days, it could be weeks if not longer? yeah, we have lost this summer. the summer of 2010 is gone for pensacola beach the way i see it. our season is from memorial day to labor day and we are sitting here the week before july 4th, and there is nobody here. reporter: disgust, anger, and for counselman larry johnson, this cleanup force is too little, too late. day after day, the tides shift the sand and much of the tar and oil is buried before the crews get to it. johnson digs down, and the oil appears underneath the surface like a ring of a tree that tell the age. john, this is covered up from the night before. reporter: how many inches down is this? four or five inches? four or five inches down. reporter: pensacola is home to greg hall and diana stevens. it kills me. i mean, it kills my soul that the gulf of mexico is being destroyed. reporter: everyday they walk the beach taking pictures,
i m suzanne malveaux and you re in the situation room. well job gains in america hit a wall now adding to fears that the nation may be socked with a second recession. there are new figures that show that the economy lost 125,000 jobs in june. now you can see there had been job growth every month in 2010 until the june slide. the loss is mostly due to the fact that the census is over and those jobs related to the census went away. the overall unemployment rate actually dipped last month to 9.5% from 9.7% in may. but analysts say that s only because so many unemployed americans were so discouraged that they stopped looking for work. the numbers are fueling new partisan fighting over whether the president s economic policies are really working. americans don t see an economy in recovery. they see a white house seemingly incapable of protecting our beaches or getting people back to work. when do we acknowledge progress? when do we give this president, this administration,
