gym, this was incredibly challenging. and just, really, in all fairness, i m the medical doctor for adult congenital heart unit but this was a huge challenge to our program. we re designed to take care of adults with congenital heart disease, that s what texas children does better than anybody in the country but this was a whole different thing. this was providing care to a pregnant woman and required care of our entire team, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, pfw, the stroke service, ecmo colleagues, i mean really 40 different groups came together to be involved on this because it was really out of the scope of adult congenital heart disease and yet, you know, i m so proud of our team that they did it. they came together, we made the adjustments we needed to to support diana and to support little baby cameron through the whole thing. yeah, and you must have, just must have been so stressful. was the heart attack and the
it was definitely difficult. i told her, you know, the doctors, that she had to come home, that we have a family to go home to. and we got to try to save the baby as well so it was definitely some uncharted territory for the doctors trying to save mom and a baby while on ecmo so oh, yeah, and dr. cameron we ll get to you in a second on that. but diana, how much do you remember of your time in the hospital? would you have done anything differently? well, fortunately, i think, i don t remember much because it was very tough. the last thing i remember was going to the e.r. so i basically don t really have any memories of my stay at the hospital. and chris, when did you realize that it was time to take her into the e.r.?
stroke connected to the covid? can you help us understand that? yeah, i mean anytime you have covid, you have propensity for more clots. pregnancy add to see that, being on ecmo adds a lot to that and as we discovered subsequently in diana s case, actually had a hole in her heart that didn t seem to be open as we were going on ecmo but was open subsequently and that hole actually allowed for the blood clots to transfer over so the three strokes and heart attack happened over a short period of time, in a single day, and that was a tough day and i mean chris remembers that day well as i do because we were there together, i mean really, that entire week was incredibly challenging, but i mean to emcho his words a lot of prayer got us through. really quickly, chris and diana well diana, i know you weren t in cquite a state, but chris, what was it like when the baby was finally born and you got to hold the baby, and the
same for you diana? for me, honestly thought, that s one down, we got to get one better, it was a little bit of relief but at the same time i wanted to share that moment with diana because we tried so hard for baby cameron and i wanted to share that moment with her and she still had a long way to go at that point but eventually started getting better right after cameron was born. yeah, three days later. i was still kind of, on medication. so it was not the best meeting. yeah. i know, there s all this you know, mom advise it , moms have built up in their head how they re going to meet their baby, hold the baby up, and to you, it certainly didn t live up to what you imagined presumably but we re so glad you re doing well now, diana, and baby cameron is great, and chris, you ve been so supportive of your wife because it s all about
